1996 plymouth voyager

I have a 1996 plymouth voyager with several problems. 1. the heat works when it wants to, the fan only blows on high, 2. the transmission wants to stick in 2nd. The check engine light is on. I took it to a mechanic the other day and his little computer would not give him any codes. A cd player was installed I.m not sure if this has anything to do with the problems or not. The cd player had been installed for quite some time before there were any problems. I'm not sure what to do??

Pam, not sure about the heat problem I don't think that it is related to the trany sticking in second gear. But the sticking in second gear is most likely a bad speed senser. The same thing happeed on my 96' with the computer giving almost unreadible codes. After I had the sensers (there are two) replaced it shifts fine and has been for three months now. The shop checked the sensers when I brought it in and told me they were ok but after bringing it back to them a second time for the same problem and insisting on them replacing them it has been fine ever since. It will only cost you about $70 to $80 to have it done. The check engine light is related to driving in second gear for too long a time. I'm sure that someone else can help you with the heat problem. Thanks for your help at least I can tell the shop what to look for and know what I should be paying for it. Thanks a bunch!

This just happened to me last month. The blower fan speeds are controlled through a resistor block that is mounted in the engine compartment on the top of the firewall on the passenger side. There
is a connector going to it with 4 wires. It is very easy to replace(just two screws) and only cost $12 for a new one. Be carefull to inspect the connector and clean the contacts if possible. One of the contacts on mine melted part of the connector and I also had to replace it. Only the first three speeds go through the resistor block. The top speed is full power to the fan. Hope this helps.
