Yellow film on the inside of headlight covers

Just one small problem, hopefully. My 97 528i has a yellow buildup which causes the white lights to appear yellow. Does anyone know how to remove the hella plastic cover and clean it, and what is the best cleaner to use? I'll appreciate any and all help. thanks

Re: Yellow film on the inside of headlight covers

All,
decided to go at it since on one could provide any help. It's very simple.
1. Remove your headlights and unplug the blinker light, very simple (be careful not to touch headlight bulb).
2. Unscrew the 4 screws that's holding the light fixture in place and gently wiggle the entire fixture out.
3. Using a flat head screwdriver, break the 2 plastic snaps gently so that they could be reused and unsnap the rest of them.
4. Pull apart gently, you'll notice another plastic latch unsnap and pull apart.
5. Remove glass lenses remembering which one goes where (they're specific for high and low beam). Using the smallest phillips screwdriver available insert it into the metal clips and rock gently while pulling up.
6. Clean the hella plastic thoroghly, and clean the glass lenses before putting them back in.
7. Put everything back in reverse order, making sure that the fixture lines up before you put in the screws.
Try this on one side first then do a comparison to the other, even my 9 year old son noticed the difference. Also, I up'ed the bulbs to Philips Silvervision. They're a world of difference compared to the standard bulb.
