2001 Ram 1500 4x4 360 90 000km (Rough Idle)
Can you please help me it is driving me crazy :o)
When Idling the rpm's fluctuate 50-100 rpm's and the truck shakes a bit as the rough Idle acts up.
Truck works great except for this Idle problem.
I bought it a few months ago with 82 500km and it has Idled like this since I have bought it, just thinking it needed a tune up.
I have tried:
New Plugs- Champion
New Plug wires- Mopar
New Distributor and Rotor Button- Aftermarket
New PCV valve- Mopar
New K&N air filter
Cleaned Idle air control (AIC)valve- Dirty but no difference
Cleaned fuel injectors- Removed and sonic cleaned No difference
Wynn's Fuel Injection sysytem flush- No difference
Took the truck to Dodge and they checked the Intake manifold gasket and vacuum tested the intake- All Ok
I only use supreme gas- Tried a few tanks of regular but didn't change at all(it just pinged going up hills under load)
Check engine light isn't on
Any suggestions or solutions would be G R E A T
Thanks Very much appreciated
First, read your owners manual. It will tell you that the engine does not benefit from premium gas. To fix your idle and pinging put 2 new O2 sensors in and you're all done.
Took it to a dealer 3 times Cost me about $950 just on labour charges just trying to find the problem not changing parts. Unless the check Engine light comes on so they can get a code they don't even want to look at your truck. Foolish but it's true. They say there's nothing wrong with that truck :o)
I talked to 4 different people with the 5.9L and they have the same problem and they spent hundreds at Dodge dealerships still no luck
It's not the miss that bothers me it's the truck shaking so much at a stop light. If I could get rid of the shaking a bit more I would be happy
Tell people your truck is shaking with power! Just put the truck in neutral and put your foot into the gas when you're sitting there waiting. It can't be that bad. I can't understand, I'd think it was cool...
check your egr valve and see if it is dirty. if it is stuck open you will get a rough idle. also unlpug the vacuum line to the charcoal cannister and block it off and see if the miss goes away. toivo
the cannister is a black round cylinder about 9'' high found on the left or right front of the motor compartment, there will be 2 or 3 lines going to it. one will be from the air intake. that is the one you plug. the cannister is about 4'' in diameter. it may be set into a hole in the wheel well. toivo
