Question Bedliner

Does anyone have any experience with the "do it yourself" roll-on bedliners? You know, does it last, how big of a mess is it to do, do you think it's worth doing, etc?

Re: Bedliner

well I put one in my truck and I do have a few suggestions ...

1) try it out beforehand with one of those small cans and a piece of scrap metal ... it's easy but you should know what you are getting into
2) sand lightly and clean the bed extremely well and you should have no problems with it sticking pretty much forever
3) wear disposable gloves and have extras handy
4) I saved some of the stuff and went back later and 'touched' up some areas
5)make sure you have plenty of good light to see where everything is going ... esp. if you ae using the same color as our bed.

I think I got most of it down ... any questions?

Do not ever use the stuff in the spray can.
Roll on might be alright if IT HAS A SEPERATE CATALYST.
If you have an air compressor or can rent one (5hp or bigger) then I would suggest going to ebay and search for "bedliner" or bed liner and you will find good kits you can buy. The same stuff as the shops use that would charge you $300 or more. The good kits will come with a seperate catalyst usually premeasured for you to mix. THey will also come with the spray gun to attatch to ur air source.
This way you can adjust gun and air pressure to spray on the desired thickness, texture, and finish.

I would suggest a light sanding of entire bed before spraying.

Its a great side job for extra money too.

Re: Bedliner

oh yes ... I second the catalyst ... the can kits come with a seperate catalyst ... I recommend using one of those mixing paddles you attach to a drill as well - mixing that crap by hand would really suck ... it's much thicker than paint ...

Also I bought some textured rollers ... seems to work out a bit better
