Steering lock bust! E34

The internal link BEHIND the tumbler has broken when switching off.
Result car steering locked.
Engine still running.
Fortunatly out side my house!

Disconnected coils to stall.
Disconnected battery to kill all.

Dismantled ALL the steering head components and eventully got the tumbler out.
Extracted the broken bits from behind but popped the little locator spring plunger out of the casting. The conection assembly between the tumbler and the switch on the other side is bust. So tumbler moved but not the switch, mover enough to let the steering lock drop on though!

RAC guy says the security for the steering locks the best he has seen .. GREAT!

Q>
Can I reasemble with a new secondhand bit through the tumbler or do I have to pull the steering wheel, top bearing etc to slip the whole casting off and replace that too?

Ta!

Ta and cheers, mate-
Too bad I don't know a damn thing about the steering column or the locking mechanism!
