Temperature gauge not readingThugginCivic 03-13-2004, 07:53 PM this morning i pulled my car out of my garage. since i can't use the car it's been sitting an today i realized that the temperature gauage was not reading it just stayed below cold. what is the reason for this. i need all the help i can get QuackerStacker 03-13-2004, 08:24 PM how long did you let the car run if you did not let it run long enough the it masy not be reading it if you did and still not reading then you should pull the sensors and test them to make sure that is it reading . I would just replace them a few bucks and your set to go cvcc_wagon 03-13-2004, 08:43 PM i am assuming you started it up and let it idle? QuackerStacker is right tho, it wont warm up enough to change the gague unless it is run for a while ThugginCivic 03-13-2004, 09:08 PM I let it sit for a good half hour plus after the first 10 mins without a change i rev'd it up to 5000rpm and held it there for a good 20seconds still no change QuackerStacker 03-13-2004, 09:11 PM i dont know about i can drive my car for about 25 to 30 min befor it will even move if you have a resevor then let it run till you see at least a little over flow if your temp gage is not responding by then replace them QuackerStacker 03-13-2004, 09:12 PM or make sure the termo. is opening and closing ... cvcc_wagon 03-13-2004, 09:13 PM an idleing engine will not heat up very fast not matter what rpm but a half hour is quite a while, i would make sure all the connections to the heat sensors (one in the head and one in hte block) are good otherwise just replace them ThugginCivic 03-13-2004, 09:19 PM now that i think about it when i did rev it up and wait i did see a little radiator fluid on the ground. not even alot but the guage still didn't move. so if thats the case what do i have to purchase QuackerStacker 03-13-2004, 09:20 PM if you are going to check the sensors there are 3 i think two in the head and one on the rad. i think i hope you the book on that car cvcc_wagon 03-13-2004, 09:25 PM the one in the rad does not controll the gague, it sets off the cooling fan when it reaches a certain temperature. you will have to look at an 85 civic reapir manual to see where the sensors are, on my 83 they are both on the passenger side of the engine, one in the head and one in the block QuackerStacker 03-13-2004, 09:29 PM yeah i though so.... ThugginCivic 03-13-2004, 09:56 PM it all good.......im bout to go buy the coolant temperature sensor and replace it it should be fine after that. thanks for all the help. QuackerStacker 03-13-2004, 10:03 PM just make sure the water is circulating cvcc_wagon 03-13-2004, 10:08 PM yeah, the temp sensor just controlls the gague, i would just wait till u have the car on the road before you get too worked up about it. it may be fine but you wont know for sure till you've driven it a bit. ThugginCivic 03-14-2004, 06:53 PM i tested the sensor this morning morning and i know it had to be warmed up cuz the fans came on so i definetly know its the sensor QuackerStacker 03-15-2004, 07:19 AM so just replace them and your on the road again .... ThugginCivic 04-15-2004, 09:10 PM that didn't help one bit. i replaced the sensor but the guage did go anywhere. now i think its the thermostat. im gonna replace tomorrow. hope it has something to do with the guage movin! ThugginCivic 04-22-2004, 04:11 PM i replaced the thermostat and the car almost overheated. when i say hot i mean hot. the guage is still not working. i touched the wire on the sender to a positive and the guage moved so i know the wire is ok but why is the gauge still not moving. im bout to buy a radiator and see if it helps me any lxndr 04-24-2004, 07:51 PM I'm confused...
