I am having trouble with my car radio/cassette player. It is a factory unit and I recently started to notice that the radio signal was starting to be lost itermittenly. At first I thought it was a radio station signal issue and that they were having technical problems and then bang no signal whatsoever. There is juice to the digital clock and when you put a tape in it is acknowledged but does not appear to be playing. I checked the fuse block under the driver's side and the fuse for the radio appears to be okay. I also checked the relay in the box under the hood and it must be working because all the other components it operates other than the radio are working. Lastly I pulled apart the dash where the radio is housed and there were no lose wires. Is there a fuse in the radio itself that needs to be replaced? How do I test the radio outside of its connection to the vehicle electrical to verify that the radio is the real issue here.

you have to look at 3 cables. If you search for my user name I have in the past posted the wire colors for our vans.

This is a guess but they will be Yellow, Red, and Black.

Make sure the Red has 12v at all times and the yellow when the Key is ON. Lastly make sure the Black is a Good Ground. All you will need to do this is a Muly-Meter.If you don't have one you can use a Bulb and just run two wires to it. When it lights you have power....

Anyway, if all 3 of these cable test come back good. it would be the radio is where the problem is.

One last thing... if the issue is when you are driven, that it cuts out. it May be a severed wire, so when you hit a bump the continuaty is lost.
