Hello. I am in need of a A/C Compressor for a 97 Chevy Cavalier. If anyone has one for sale please let me know. TIA

Six years here too. It is making a terrible rattling sound. The only way to stop the noise is to turn the A/C on.

Re: '97 A/C Compressor needed

almost seven years here. it used to stop when i turned my a/c on ,but not anymore. now it just gives me a constant high piched noise. thank god the radio still is able to drown it out.lol. they told me it would be about $500 to have it repaired. i guess i'll just have to use 4/40 (4 windows down/40 mph) for a while.

Re: '97 A/C Compressor needed

Go to Autozone and get a serpentine belt for a Cavi w/out the a/c option. Then put this belt on and forget about the compressor or the a/c til your ready to fix. Mine was running for some time like this. I'm getting ready to fix you can get a rebuilt comp. for 100-$150 from a salvage dealer. I was considering doing the whole job myself but I'm pretty sure my old one got chewed up. So I'm gonna take it to a shop to have professionally flushed and do the rest of the install myself.

Out of Curiosity, was the comp. you had put in last fall was new? I have seen posts from people who swear the rebuilt ones are more reliable.

wafrederick Has more negative feedback than positive
The rebuilts are junk.My father has really bad luck with rebuilts, fail after being installed. The company who rebuilt them would not warrenty them at all.My father buys used ones and has better luck with the used ones from an auto salvage yard that are not rebuilt than the rebuilds.

if you can, replace it yourself. my mechanic charged me 700 plus to have it fixed.a good short term is the serpentine belt,i did that during the winter.
