Question Transmission Shift Problem

My 98 chevy pickup (V6 Auto Trans) has quit downshifting when I try to accelerate while passing. It shifts fine during normal acceleration and deceleration but just doesn't drop down a gear when I really need to step on it. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be and how to diagnose it????

Re: Transmission Shift Problem

There is a cable that activates the kickdown for those trucks i believe. It should be connected to the throttle-body somewhere around the throttle cable. If it's broken, the truck will not downshift.

I believe the tv cable has not been used since 93? when the electronic transmission went in 1/2 ton production models. Try a new fuel filter if it hasn't been changed in a while

Re: Transmission Shift Problem

a mal-adjusted throttle position sensor can cause this.

Re: Transmission Shift Problem

Need to watch the data stream on a scanner. Any codes? Sometimes with a trans service the pan can hit the 3-2 downshift solenoid (or shift solenoids for that matter) or 3-2 solenoid could just be no good any longer. Thats just a guess as no data stream in front of me.
