i'm thinking about bidding on this car. but, i know next to nothing about BMWs. can ya'll educate me real quick?

what kind of things go wrong on these cars? what should i look for? any websites you guys would recommend for research on this car?

www.e34.net. This website is dedicated to the 1989-1995 5-Series, but the 1994-1995 540i used the identical engine and 5-speed automatic transmission as the 740i. It also shared the problems with the early Nikasil engine block (a lot of these were replaced under warranty at low mileages).

If you've go the time, go to a B&N or Borders and browse "BMW Buyers Guide" by Fred Larimer--excellent book. Also "BMW Enthusiast's Companion" if you can get your hands on that.
