Recall Campaign 02V256000 What You Don't Know (WYDK)

The title of this campaing 's "EXTERIOR LIGHTING " and addresses a defective ignition switch that results in potential loss of headlight and windshield wiper functions. Details about the complaints and problems are found in Engineering Analysis EA00-020. The investigation was opened on August 10, 2000, and closed on October 9, 2002.

As a result, VW was to send out letters with information about an extended warranty [8 years from date of first purchase / 100,000 miles] on these ignition switches. I finally got mine, but it was dated October 2003.

Replacement of the ignition switch may or may not resolve "hard starting", "no starting", or "check engine light" issues. [ It did for me.] It's worth it just to read how complaints get investigated AND to get that part replaced before the warranty runs out.
