Can a rebuilt 1993 GTI transmission be installed in a 1998 GTI?

well as far as i know that gearbox is a direct bolt-on. What i do not know is whether the '93 has the same diameter clutch disc/flywheel or not.should they have the same dia.and the same layout then you have no problem. i say the same layout as at previous generations of golfs, e.g. my Mk2, has the inverted flywheel -clutch assembly, where a rod runing through the gearbox pushes a disc on the inner (or back) side of the clutch/flywheel assembly. i am quite sure though that the two gearboxes that you mention have the same layout.so if they have the same layout and the main shaft fits the disc, then you have no problem. if though you have the codes of the gearboxes, please give them to me and i will inform you for sure.
