Desert Island MP3sreplicant_008 03-02-2004, 06:18 PM Okay, this is a rehash of the old BBC Desert Island Discs format but you have the prospect of being marooned somewhere for a year and your solar powered IPOD can only hold 5 records which will be the only music you will have (unless you make your own). And so with your companion (yep you get to spend the year with someone you care about) to consider - you now have to choose 5 records to take with you and explain why those 5 (which is pretty important as it's part of the point of the whole thread)... One more thing to consider... it's going to somewhere warm, tropical with an abundance of fresh water, fruit and vegetables, fish and other edible fauna. May make a difference - then again it may not... but it's not going to be a huge struggle and a lot of sunsets to behold... carrrnuttt 03-02-2004, 06:25 PM The soothing sounds of the ocean, accompanied by Kenny G on his sax... ...So I can go mad quicker and forget I was marooned. carrrnuttt 03-02-2004, 06:27 PM ...OR... A nice long lecture on boatbuilding techniques... crayzayjay 03-02-2004, 07:03 PM Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing; incredible song that i can listen to repeatedly without getting bored, great Knopfler solo Guns n Roses - Sweet Child Of mine; same as above + love Slash's solo Jamiroquai - Cosmic Girl; good upbeat tune, brings back good memories hmm.. 2 left, must think carefully.. Nirvana? no.. Eminem? no.. Spice girls? only kidding :grinno: final two: Faithless - Insomnia; crazy tune Zero 7 - Destiny; sends me to dreamy land :D That's it, pretty diverse bunch.... zebrathree 03-02-2004, 07:08 PM AC/DC Back In Black (whoa, big surprise)- its just so COOL. AC/DC Thunderstruck- ditto Kenny Rogers The Gambler - life lessons. Iron Maiden- 2 Minutes To Midnight- love the guiters. Hendrix All Along The Watchtower- PSYOP for when I inevitably get into a war with the natives. Spec2 Girl 03-02-2004, 07:18 PM I’d just have a whole mix of various songs from different albums so I had a good variety of songs. zebrathree 03-02-2004, 07:21 PM Oh, records. I got confused with that old term. I'll report laaaaaateeerrr. xviciousx 03-02-2004, 07:39 PM Jade from Sweetbox- 1000 Words (from FFX-2.. nice soft song) Boy Sets Fire- Rookie (good song for my anger) Metallica- No Leaf Clover (just a good song) Zombie Nation- Kern Kraft 400 (maybe it's the other way around but it's good) Nobuo Uematsu- To Zanarkand (from FFX... good orchestral) replicant_008 03-02-2004, 08:16 PM I’d just have a whole mix of various songs from different albums so I had a good variety of songs. Nope - breaks the rules. The whole point is that you have to think about the records/CDs that you want to take, which is the whole point - if you could take every track you wanted then you don't have to make a choice. This is a forced choice framework - you have to make a decision and have to consider why you made the choices... xviciousx 03-02-2004, 08:21 PM if you could take every track you wanted then you don't have to make a choice. TexasF355F1 03-03-2004, 11:52 AM Well I'm cheating. You need batteries to listen to your music right? Well I'll just bring an i-Pod with all my albums on it. But my 5 albums would be: -Alice In Chains - Box Set (My favorite band) -Boy Sets Fire - Tomorrow Come Today(great band) -Too Short - Get In Where You Fit In (good beats and good flows) -On Broken Wings -Beautiful Mistake replicant_008 03-04-2004, 05:15 PM Well I did say it was a solar powered IPOD... Anyway, my albums would be: U2 The Joshua Tree U2's finest album - and something that was played on my early morning four hour blasts to the skihill (mainly around dawn) Faith No More - The Real Thing Another album from my past - and a mixed bag of tracks. FNM were always an innovative band - too alternative to be mainstream, too mainstream to appeal to alternative fans. Sheryl Crow - Self Titled An album to listen to because it's a journey and it's a melange of country, rock and pop. And because Ms Crow is/was pretty hot looking. Radiohead - The Bends My favourite album from Radiohead. Cafe Del Mar - Number Eight Well it was either this or last year's Hed Kandi Winter Chill compilation. Something to listen to next to the campfire as I watch the sun set in the west... crayzayjay 03-04-2004, 05:20 PM Cafe Del Mar #5 and #7 trounce #8 :p Edit: btw, check out Air - Moon Safari and StGermain - Tourist if you havent already... great albums. Nitin Sawhney - Sunset is another awesome song to listen to  Spec2 Girl 03-04-2004, 05:55 PM Nope - breaks the rules. This is a forced choice framework - you have to make a decision and have to consider why you made the choices...I have absolutely no idea then. :p Evanescence is the only one I can think of. zebrathree 03-04-2004, 06:42 PM AC/DC Back In Black: Drinking, rooting music. Queen Greatest Hits (double CD): Queen rock. Enough said. Iron Maiden: The Number of the Beast- Their best album. Elvis: Greatest Hits.- Well, its Elvis for fucks sake. Rolling Stones: Fourty Licks- Any band that is still going after 40 years and still getting poontang deserves respect. replicant_008 03-04-2004, 09:47 PM Cafe Del Mar #5 and #7 trounce #8 :p Edit: btw, check out Air - Moon Safari and StGermain - Tourist if you havent already... great albums. Nitin Sawhney - Sunset is another awesome song to listen to  Well I actually own St Germain Tourist and Boulevard and Nitin Sawhney's Prophesy album. I picked number 8 CDM for personal reasons - mainly it relates to a particular person I spent an evening listening to the album with on a west coast ironsand beach on a lazy warm evening in late summer. Not because it was any better than the others... which is why I mentioned the driftwood bonfire and the sunset... I also considered the Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream, GNR Appetite, Hed Kandi Deeper + Beach House 03, Wallpaper Mach 1.5 (DJ Nasir), Garbage's Pink Album (Went to it with a friend, saw Shirley Manson, went drinking afterwards...) I saw U2 just after they released Rattle and Hum - saw the concert on late spring evening - remember a sky rocket launching from the right side of the stadium and completing a perfect arc over the centre of the stage... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
