I'm looking to replace my tires this next year. I want larger tires but don't want to get into suspension or body lift. What Size tires can I go with, without more mod's?

hey, what year do you have? i have a 1988 LX limited sport utility Trooper and I comfortabely fit 33x12.50 TXR's on stock "Trooper rims" and stock suspension with absolutely no body lift or suspension lift. The Trooper is way more stable than the puny stock tire size of 235/75, which is the equivalent of 28.9x9.3. And the stock Trooper rim is 15inches by 6 inches and i fit a 12.50 width on it, it works out great, i have pics if you want some.

so consider that tire size...
would you feel more comfortable going around a sharp corner with 28.9x9.3's or 33x12.50's?

I have a 1998, Trooper Running 245/70 16" that is stock for this one.

You might provide a bit more info on what kind of driving you do in your Trooper, and whether you want any significant appearance or handling changes.

If you just want a bit larger footprint using stock 7-inch rims, I would go with a 265/70 or 275/70 tire. Speedo error with those are approx 3.7% and 5.6% respectively. Seems that a lot of folks go to 75 series tires, but that'll put you at over 7% speedo error.

It all comes down to what you want and what compromises you will accept.

Ok, I'm new at this. I have 1998, trooper running stock 245/70 16". Looking for a few more inches of the ground. For MO, hunting. 30-40% off Road. NO deep mud pits or tight cornering required. I do run over rocky/feld tree areas. My concern is rubbing inside tires or fender.

Andy, Like silverghost says, your speedometer (and odometer) will be WAY off if go bigger in diameter than 265's. You will gain more than an inch or so ride hight with 265's & not load up the drive train too bad. IMHO- that's the way to go for your application. You can search around for another plastic speedo gear (for the tranny tailshaft) that will compensate for larger tires if that's the way you really want to go.

Kay, so what would my speedo error percentage be, having gone from stock 225/75 16's to 245/75 16's.

I know the 245/70's would've been same overall diameter; however I couldn't find an LT 6-ply tire in that size without buying the BFG's - don't get me wrong, those are good tires. But VERY $$$$

So I got the Revo's instead - I was thinking along a 3% difference or so??
