im bout to buy me the fmax turbo kit. and i was thinking that wouldnt a ignition unit be bad with turbo b/c it would make it hotter in the combustion chamber and its already really hot from the turbo running. so would having an ignition unit be bad or it doesnt matter?

you don't need it...just some colder plugs

The OEM Honda ignition stuff is great. You really don't need to replace it. Just switch to copper plugs one or two heat ranges cooler (and check them often!)

In some other cars, the stock ignition is not quite up to snuff - adding boost actually makes it harder to spark (the air between the electrodes is more dense, making the necessary spark-over voltage significantly higher). So many people will need to replace their stock ignition system when they add FI. But your Honda system is so excellent, that as long as it's in good shape, there's little need to replace it. :) The Apexi drag car (twin turbo) uses the stock Honda ignition...

If you still want to get a nice box though, check out the new Crane HI-6R ignition - it includes some very nice features like variable timing retard and sequential rev-limiting for only around $230. I've become quite enamored with them of late...

On another note, the amount of heat that the spark contributes to the engine is completely negligible compared to the explosion of gasoline it ignites. Don't worry about it.

Wait doens't the FMAX kit come with a MSD BTM? The BTM is the answer to high boost reliability.

the BTM requires an MSD ignition control box be installed, cuz it cant alter the factory signal.
