84 skylark shut off when stoppingghostguy6 02-26-2004, 02:05 PM Ive got an 84 skylark 2.8 V6. When I slow down to stop at an intersection the car shuts off and rolls to a jerky stop. It only does this sometimes! Ive checked the carb, the fuel lines, the battery, all fluid levels and I cannot find anything wrong. If anyones got any ideas please let me know. the only other thing i can think of is the electrnoic contol modual but ive got no idea how to check that! Ive got the car going to a mechanic in a few days but Id really like to save some cash and fix it myself :banghead: reeBrelliM 03-21-2004, 01:13 AM Ive got an 84 skylark 2.8 V6. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the torque convertor lockup in the transmission, but I have no idea as to why it happens, or how to fix it. Please advise. Thanks! reeB Uncle_Adolf 04-30-2004, 12:06 AM Not sure on the older tranny's but on the 88 and up TH125C, there's a plug down low on the driver's side that can be pulled to prevent the converter from locking up. This'll stop the stalling problem, but you'll lose some fuel mileage by doing this. Gingertreaty 05-27-2004, 07:43 PM I have the same problem with my '89 skylark. The plug was pulled when I bought it so I don't really know where it is. The car runs fine but the engine light comes on when the weather is cold (not a problem). It will take about two hundred and fifty to fix but I'm having other things fixed before that. I have been driving with it that way for about 8 months. ghostguy6 08-04-2004, 05:57 PM Can someone post me a pic of this plug? I wanna make sure i get the right one. The problem stopped for awhile but it seams to have come back now :( Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
