Need help with very odd electrical problem

I am having electrical problems. When the car is in park, everything works just fine. But if I put it into gear, I lose power to my windows and wipers and the power steering goes out. Sometimes it will work just fine, but then I will be driving down the road and this will happen again. But if I put it back into park, everything is working just fine again. I am completely lost as to what could be causing this.

It sounds like the Transmission Range Sensor or Neutral safety switch is out of alignment or needs replacing. There is a section on adjusting or replacing it in the Chilton's manual if you have one.

But would that cause the wipers and windows not to work also?

Hi: Since you have the problem when you go to drive, seems a connection is slightly moving when the transmission moves a little under load. Take a look at my forum response to 'Quirky Electrical Problems'

Thanks,

Hi,

Did you ever find the cause to this? My car started doing the exact same things today. I won't be fixing it myself but would appreciate if you could tell me what was wrong and the approx cost of repairs.

thanks

Angie
