Unhappy 2000 Alero DTC PO440

My daughter has this car and she had it scanned and this code came up. We looked it up and one of the things was a loose gas cap. She checked her gas cap and it was loose. I took the battery cable off for awhile to reset SERVICE ENGINE SOON Light, but it didn't do any good.
Is there another way to reset this light, so we can see if the loose gas cap was the problem. Thank You!

You need an OBDII scan tool or code reader to reset the trouble code. Any garage. some parts stores or even oil change centers can do this for you (for a fee of course).

Lightbulb

Alot of auto parts places (I always go to the local Autozone) will reset your PCM codes at no charge (assuming the code does not represent a problem that is dangerous or that would put you or others at risk if ignored)

Yep. Autozone does that for free.

One other thing, check the seal around it. It is possible for the cap to be bad and not alowing the tank to pressurize which in turn will pop that light on.
