Unhappy 97GT 3.1 with a miss

Got a problem with my 97GT. 3.1L 97K miles.

About a month ago it was throwing code 0300 - random misfire. So I pulled the plugs and sure enough they needed changing. Replaced them all and the code went away and the car ran fine.

Fast forward to now. It is throwing a code 0301 - #1 misfire. I pulled the #1 plug out for a looksee and it was pretty carboned up. All of the others look fine - brand new in fact . I guessed maybe a bad plug. Went to WallyWorld and picked up a new one. It still misses!!!. I checked the continuity of the wire and it checks out OK. I put a plug in the end and grounded it to the manifold while starting the car and it seems to have a healthy spark (especially when it shocked me a few times ).

There is no odor of unburned fuel on the plug after a few seconds of running like I would assume if was not firing. Fuel pressure is 40-42 psi (engine off) and steady.

Since I just got a compression tester as a new toy I checked that cyl and two others and they are all ~160.

I am new to this new fangled SFI and DIS stuff so I am a bit out of my depth. We are suspecting a stuck injector or something but the DIS system with all of its brains worries me that it could be doing something strange too.

Can anyone smarter point me towards the problem?

Thanks!!

Dale
