I testdrove 911 for the first time in my life today!
It was car of my dream since I've been a 12-year kid
That's my impressions:
Featured car was 1979 911SC targa
"-" very hard clutch and brake pedals. accelerator OK
I have stalled couple times when start it
"-" very stiff suspension/harsh ride. I feel every bump and joint
on the pavement. Is it normal?
"-" this car doesn't have power steering. Steering wheel too heavy
on parking. That's not good
"-" The most disappointed thing was acceleration. I revved it to 3500rpm
on 2nd gear before shift to 3rd but it wasn't exiting... I expected
more from 180hp engine (my Mazda MX6 has 164hp and it accelerate
better on 2nd and 3rd gear)
"+" engine sound! It's pleasant to ear and I want to hear it over
and over again!
"+" Recaro seats rocks!!!! I never sit in such great seats like this
(but it's not standard option on this particular car)
"+" steering wheel (also non-standard)
"+++++" easy recognizable exterior and "legendary" origin

So I'm a little bit disappointed. Is Porsche 911 for hardcore fanatics only? Can it be daily driven or just "fun car" for short trips?
Or I'm not grown enough for Porsche?

One you are not driving the car right. What is the asking price. I just drove an 1978 911 SC. Cars have no powersteering. The clutch is really hard and the brakes are kinda weird if you haven't driven one of these great cars. The engine sound one of the most wonderful sounds that the flat 6 3.2L engine makes. The car is suppose to be a hard ride it's not an benz. You feel the road so much when you steer it. It has a racing gearbox the 915 type. How did it shift?? I would get the gearbox checked out by a porsche shop cause it may seem to shift fine but these gear boxes are tricky. Try to drive it again don't shift til higher rpms until like 5500 or so that's how the car works it doesn't like low rpms runs so much better at higher rpms. Basically all you have told me is just how the 911SC runs like. On that car you will have to just keep up with the engine maintanice and suspenion. Sorry if I said you didn't drive it right but you really didn't just trying to back the old 911 up Oh yea do the brakes feel like you are not going to stop in time?? All this info is coming from me an 18 year old that has driven a lot of Porsche so far in my lifetime. Even harder car to drive is an 1973 911S or RS last true Porsche by the hardcore fans. Let me know what is up with the car.

The question about hard pedals is it normal behaviour or sign of failure?
if normal it's matter of practice to hanlde it.

The first time behind the wheel of one of these babies especially pre 94 they can seem a bit wierd, they're not comfortable, they feel ungainly and clumsy, give it some time and practice...you'll never want to drive another car soon (IMO) The later incarnations do seem to have a more jump in and go feel to them but for me the fuzziness of the earlier incarnations is far more alluring.

The clutch and brake are very "hard" in the newer porsche's also...this is a good thing. stiff clutch means won't break as easy and the brakes are perfect. Porsche brakes modulate by how hard you push them, not how far you push them...just like a real race car. As far as lare-70's car not having the power of "new" car....ummm...what did you expect. It may have more HP then your mx6, but Hp to weight is HP to weight...it doesn't matter if porsche makes the car or not. I think you have unreasonable expectations of a 23 year old car.

It may not have been running well also. Many older porsche's aren't running to great anymore. Also, if you aren't used to driving insane oversteering cars I wouldn't recommend an old porsche. The engine in the back, coupled with an older suspension geometry, coupled with inexperience with RWD can be a dangerous combo. I have been a porsche fan since i was about 8. My dad gave me a magazine all about them...i probably read it 100 times! I know what you are talking about.

yeah I like the good old engine sound too, they're air cooled and probably makes the difference with other engines
