Please Help Fast!!!! Camaro's Bumping

i noticed that my rs makes a light thumping noise when i'm driving steadily. i was driving last night very slow, like 30, in third gear, and there was a constant thumping, like something is loose and banging, or a pipe is hitting. also, when i down shift into second, once in a while i will hear a REALLY loud thump. the shifter seems to bounce up and down quite a bit. i had a similar problem in my 89 firebird v6. in the firebird, it turned out to be the transmission mount. sound familiar to anyone? if so, is the one @ jegs worth the money?

please help, FAST. thanks

yup.. well mine was more serious... it turns out the torque from the engine twisted off one of the motor mounts and one of the tranny mounts.. whenever i would get on it it would feel like the center colom would bump or a loud clump...

Re: Please Help Fast!!!! Camaro's Bumping

My friend had a 96 v6 camaro and it had the same problem. Every time he down shifted or peeled out or even when he drove to slow on a gear for some reason his exaust pipe would hit the bottom of the car.

yeah man, sounsd like a tranny mount if the shifter is actually moving, put it upin the air and check if you can. jegs is pretty reputable, i would trust them.

my friend had a problem like that in his 91 Accord, whenever he would turn, accell from a stop, or stop at a light, there'd be a Thud, turned out to be the loose bowling ball he put in the trunk.

Re: Please Help Fast!!!! Camaro's Bumping

well, i took it to the garage the other day. one of the pipes was bumping against the bottom of the car, and it also needs a tranny mount. cost me $32 to get the pipe fixed, and i'm prolly looking @ about $75 to have the tranny mount installed. i'll let you know how it works out in the end

Yeah sounds like a problem I use to have also... I started getting poor acceleration, and I was hearing a thud every time the car turned. I was getting really bad compression and my engine it was running hot. Turned out to be a loose bowling ball under my hood.
