This is my 1st post...thanks for having me.
If they build this chevelle, they are going to be marketing to a different crowd than they were 20+ years ago. I'm 35 with a good job and I won't be able to justify spending 30grand on one. Anyone that wants a muscle car could find and old carmaro or chevelle and go through it. My brother in law has spent about 15,000 on his 66 Nova and it is BAD NEWS. It will never be as comfortable and quiet as that new chevelle, but hey...are we talking about muscle cars or luxury rides?

Don't believe for a second that classic cars are either rust buckets or trailer queens. There are thousands of classics out there to be had that are right in the middle. If you dont believe me, go to autotrader.com and then click on "collector cars". You can find nearly anything in a condition that suits you.

The new GTO does Not embody the old one. That car is an Australian HOLDEN MONARO.... Do you get it? You can't import a car from another country and slap a GTO emblem on it and say "YEP that's IT......the essence of American made muscle".

Can Chevrolet still make a great muscle car? You better believe it. They can build ANYTHING they want to. The corvette is a great muscle car, lots of dough. The chevelle is supposed to run 0-60 in 5.3. Pretty quick, also expensive. The problem is, if they made a stripped down 400hp thumpin' rear wheel drive, fire breathin' beast that was affordable to the ricer crowd, those kids would freaking kill themselves with that kind of power.

The only thing saving those kids is the fact that Grandma's '78 four door LTD is packin' more power than their stickered up Jap-mobiles and they aren't smart enough to take a classic and bring it back to life (unless all it takes is a trunk wing and a sheet of stickers).

Speed and power is all relative....the fact is, Infiniti claims that their big four door luxury sedan the Q45 will do 0-60 in 5.9 seconds...Just six tenths of a second slower than the new GTO and proposed Chevelle. Sure the q45 is REALLY expensive, but do you want to pay 35,000 for a new gto or chevelle and JUST edge out some family on the way to putt putt golf?

I say if you want a muscle car.....be Descisive.... leave NO DOUBT in the a-hole next to you that you had his ticket the whole time. Get an old car, drop a big block in it, with low gears and posi and EAT every new rolling computer that hits the street.

I'll have to check out that 2005 Chevelle.
Not that I'd buy one but I'd like to see what they are doing to the "legend".

i would be more worried about eating my wallet, running around with a 400-600 horsepower beast with 3.73's getting 8 mpg on super unleaded costing close to 2.00 a gallon. thats a great idea

Finally, someone I agree with. I think that if Chevy wants to make a new muscle car, then by all means they should do it, but do NOT badge it as a Chevelle. You will never get the feel of an early Chevelle with a new one. There is no need for naming it a Chevelle, and I don't think they should try to revive the classics, especially 'cause they might screw it up by not offering a standard transmission or making power windows standard I am thinking along the lines of the Monte Carlo and Impala here.

The new GTO, that wasn't a good idea. It's nothing but a re-badged Monaro. Granted, it's a sweet car, but it's not a true GTO. I would have no problem with this car, but they HAD to slap a GTO badge on it to try to make people buy it. A true GTO would be an affordable, American made street killer.

So no, I don't think there should be a new Chevelle. Give it a new name, and if they screw it up, it won't be besmerching a good name.

I agree. After looking at it I wouldn't want to see the Chevelle nameplate on it. It would be difficult to modernize the look and feel of the Chevelle.
