Fuel Pressure Regulator

OK guys...here's the problem...i have a 2000 Z71 with 5.3L of raw horsepower. The problem is she has a minor case of the sniffles. I have had it to the mechanic for 3 days now and he cant find out what is wrong. I have terrible gas mileage. It has dropped to 12 MPG and the power has gone south. He scanned it and no codes. He changed the fuel filter and checked the fuel pressure. The #6 cylinder will occasionally misfire and sometimes other cylinders will too. I talked to a gentleman at NAPA and he said he had fixed a truck that had done that. My truck will also at warm starts not want to start right away, It isnt a terribly long time, just a few more cranks than normal. ANYWAY....he told me to check the vacuum lines on the FPRegulator and if there was any sign of gas in there than it needed to be replaced. There was not a significant amount of gas on the barb but there was a strong odor of fuel in both the top and bottom vacuum hose. My question is this, Is the guy from NAPA feeding me a line? I have it scheduled for Monday to have the FPRegulator replaced and its going to be over a hundred bucks, so any advice would be helpful!!!!

I'm not sure if your problem is the FPR or not, but changing one of these is a piece of cake. You can do it yourself in about 1 minute and not even get your hands dirty AND NO TOOLS!!

Check to see what your price on the part is and do it yourself. My cost on one is around $67.00.

Re: Fuel Pressure Regulator

Also matttara, I have a 6.0L that is doing the same thing your 5.3L is doing and I changed the FPR with no improvment. It's been at my local Chevy dealer for the past 3 days while they try to find the problem.

Keep checking back here and I'll let you know what they find, before Monday, hopefully I'll get it back today, Friday.

Re: Fuel Pressure Regulator

regardless of wheather the fuel pressure regulator is your problem or not, if you observe fuel in it's vacuum hose.

It's Bad!

Re: Fuel Pressure Regulator

My 88 Silverado is not starting as quick as it should and it has a little white smoke that comes out of the exhaust when i start it up. Is the FPR the problem. Where is it located and how can i check it? Also what does it look like?
