1990 Bmw 525panzershreck 02-16-2004, 12:44 AM hi im new to the forums... looking at buying a 1990 BMW 525, 136,000 mi, 5 speed manual transmission for $3,600... just wondering what the record is for the early 90's 5 series (how costly to maintain, how many repairs, reliability, etc.) is it worth it? (previous vehicle and also my first was an 86' Toyota pickup that was in poor condition but was very cheap and needed little maintenance, now i have enough money and am willing to invest it) 4-Door Flunky 02-17-2004, 02:40 PM Sounds like a good deal to me. I only paid $1800 for my car, but it had some problems, like the heater didn't work, A/C didn't work, stuff like that. Here are some links: http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/used/reviews/photos/index.cfm/id/2118/img/90602061000108 http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/6641.shtml Good stuff here: http://www.unofficialbmw.com/frame_e34.html On the unofficial bmw site, you'll have to look around and click on a bunch of stuff, but it has DETAILED info on how to fix stuff and what you can expect. Flunky panzershreck 02-18-2004, 09:02 PM well im going to go check it out tomorrow in person from what i can tell, its a weekend drive vehicle with only a cracked front bumber in damage, no accidents or flood damage, interior is perfect and is easily inspectable... however, for everything else, what should i look for when i inspect myself? panzershreck 02-19-2004, 06:36 PM grrr... tested the car out today, in perfect condition, im really impressed (very fun to drive!) i sure do wish insurance companies didnt discriminate by age but go on a case by case basis... im a better driver than anybody in my entire family yet i would have to pay the biggest fee of $1500 a year... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
