Smile 98 ns 2002 express G3500

Just found this forum so will give a share a little info. I previously had a 98 G3500 extended van, bought in 98 and traded in in 2002 for the identical van (almost). I put 447,000 on the 98 van and only had minor problems which consisted of: coil wire went out, driver seat adjustment handle broke, intake manifold leak at about 200,000, had to replace the fuel pump about ever 130,000 miles, quite expensive. Someone suggested not allowing the tank to get below 1/4 in the summer as the fuel helps cool the pump. Had one water pump replaced about 300,000 miles, brake rotors replaced about the same time. Of course drive belt, tune up's, oil change almost every week, etc. I used slick 50, don't know if it did any good or not but it was puring like a kitten when I traded it in. Oh, two other things, at 440,000 my catalic converters went out as well as my after market cruise control. As far as the 2002 I have 89,000 on it and it performs magnificant. Hope to see an increase in post on this forum as I know someday I will be looking to solve some type of problem. I used the vehicles to transport expedited freight all over the US and Canada so they had their exposures to various climates.
Ordered a K & N air filter today, I have heard they increase mileage, would like to hear of any experiences in similar vehicle using the K & N filter. That's about it will post occasionally the good news and hope to not have to post any bad news.

What engine do you have? I have a '98 with the 5.7. All I have done so far is half a tuneup and deleted the air horn on the airbox.

Re: 98 ns 2002 express G3500

i HAD AN 85 F150 PICKUP WITH 300CI STRAIGHT6 AND WENT FROM FRAM TO K&N WHILE MY GASS MILLAGE WENT FROM 9 TO 13 MPG.

THIS MAY SOUND LIKE BAD INFO, BUT IF YOU GET THE HYPO CHIP INSTALLED, THAT WILL ALSO INCREASE MILLAGE AS WELL AS POWER.
fact=the more horsepower you have the less your engine has to work therefore the less fuel it has to use and also improves engine life especially where the vehicle is under constant loads.

i BUILT A HYPO ENGINE FOR MY CAMERO, PUT A HYPO 350 CHIP ON A 305, BORED AND STROKED 350, AND STILL HAVE THE SAME MPG AS THE STOCK 305 WITH TWICE THE HORSEPOWER

Re: 98 ns 2002 express G3500

Mine's an '02 3500 ext. w/ 180k (nov 04). Fuel pump at 115k, distributor (shaft) passed at 130k.
Brakes were good at 160k!!! K&N ($81) went on new, so couldn't tell mpg imp. Went to 265's from 245's for third tire set - mpg's went to 16.1 from 14.7 at 140k. Now, got a small heat problem...
