Greetings,
I am planning to buy a 94 VTECH delSol with 93k, manual. Seems very clean. I was wondering what are the common problems to look at. I have never owned a Honda - mostly Nissans.
Thanks for advice!

How many miles you got? When is the timing belt supposed to be replaced?

i got a lot i drive every day 30 miles for work one way and on my day off i drive an average of 200 miles in one day just to cruse around so i got 155k and the timing belt should be replaced like at 60-70 just to be safe ( trust me you dont want that thing breaking on you)

I think I replaced mine about 85-90k...

yeah, that'll really screw up your car if it breaks...

on my '95 the targa top leaks and the window motor's starting to go out...but I'm a wind addict, so I probably overuse that thing more than most people...

check the usual stuff, brakes, oil, clutch, whatnot. Hondas are usually pretty good, the Sol just has the leaking problem w/ the targa often, if you do a search you can probably find ways to fix this...just gotta lube the seals w/ silicone grease/spray.

VTECH delSol

50 lashes with a wet noodle for using "VTECH". :p

That aside, the most common problem with the Del Sol is pretty much the leaking targa top. The seals were re-designed '95 and up, so those really don't leak. Honda's got a fix for your leak, but require you to replace the seals. After that, it's pretty much just lubing the seals regularly to keep them in good shape and from leaking. There were a few other small items, but Honda's got a fix for just about all of it. Swing by your local Honda dealer and ask them to look up any recalls or service bulletins on your year and model and they can reference your VIN and see what can be done to your car and give you an idea where it stands.

The Del Sol's a great car. Just kinda squeaky at times. :)

What you say?! Don't leak??? HA! Maybe not as bad as the previous models, but oh they do leak my friend.

Oh wait. I don't lube the seals enough. And the previous owner took craptastic care of the car...I'd bet he never touched a tube of silicone grease in their life. Nevermind.

You just gotta take care of the car, and it'll take care of you :)

...The Sol was recalled for the faulty weather seals of the '93-94 models...I'm sure somewhere somehow you can look up if the previous owners got the upgraded seals.

lol Well, I lube my seals probably once a month (sometimes twice) and aside from when I first bought the car, not a drop of water since. You just gotta take care of the car and all should be well. One of these days, when I've got money to throw around, I'd like to have Honda replace all the seals with new ones.
