99 Tercel Automatic Shifting

Ever since I purchased my 99 Tercel 4 spd automatic several months ago, I've noticed that it is rough shifting between first and second gear before the motor is warmed-up to normal operating temperature. After its warmed-up, the shifts between first and second are as smooth as my other car. (The fluid is not old, its not burnt and the level is correct.)

Is this a normal trait for a 99 Tercel 4spd automatic?

Since my original message, I have been talking to a local Tercel owner (same model and transmission) and he assures me that the initial rough automatic shifting from first into second gear while the vehicle is cold is normal. He has more than one make of vehicle and it was one of the first quirks he noticed about his Tercel. He spoke to other local owners who confirmed that they all do it.
