Looking at a 1991 535i

I'm brand new to this board and have some questions about a 535i I'm looking at tomorrow. This is the basic ad:

5spd, all power options, sunroof, duel climate control, AC, light tint, sport springs, 17x9 BBS wheels in front and 17x10 BBS wheels in the rear. Alarm with keyless entry, nice 11 speaker stereo including 10" sub. Car is in excellent mechanical condition. Many new parts: New head gasket, fully rebuilt engine head with mild performance cam, new clutch, throw out bearing and pressure plate, new brakes, starter, Brembo cross drilled rotors, new radiator, water pump, control arm bushings (which must be replaced on all 89-94 5 series) plus much more.

The seller says the new head is because of the first owner not running a proper type of coolant which did in the head gasket. He's asking 10K, which I note is quite a bit over book. Any ideas on this deal?

Thanks

Hi, Droogie-
Are you going to cruise around in this car and get into a bit o' ultra-violence?
Ten thousand seems like a lot of money. My car, a 1985 535i, was not in fantastic condition, but I got it for $1800. Yours is newer and has some upgrades, which I think makes it worth more.
But not that much more...

PS-Also, remember that used cars are not getting great prices right now. Interest rates are low and many manufacturers are offering very good deals on loans. Most people would rather spend a bit more money on a brand new car. If you agree to buy the car, definitely offer a much lower amount of money. I always find that bringing the cash with you can help during the dickering. "Show me the money" has dramatic results...especially if you're going to offer significantly less money...like $5000.
Everyone who does upgrades knows that you are never, ever going to recoup the cost when you sell the vehicle...this guy probably discovered that it didn't cost anything extra since he was repairing damage anyway, so he went for it. Good for him, and you too...but not if you pay too much.
