Does anyone know how to remove the actuator controll arm( if that is what this piece of broken pot metal is called) located in the steering column, tilt wheel. 85 Suburban.( Mine broke in the middle, and I now have a rather large yard ornament.) I have one for replacement,(actuator), but its inside of a different column. I have stripped this one down as far as I think it will, at least with the tools I have available. Can't seem to see how this thing comes outa there. I have a manual, but doesn't show any pics or detail. Having trouble seperating the housing, below the steering wheel. I have mine torn down to the same place as the extra one I have. Ignition switch came out ok. Anybody out there with any ideas????? I'm kinda out in the middle of knowhare, and I'm limitied on resources. Thanks in advance.

I've got the same year k10 with the same problem. I believe it's called the "actuator rack", it has teeth and two prongs on the end that goes toward the engine. At least that's what mine looks like as well as what appears to be a broken end on one of the prongs. Did you ever figure out how to get that replaced, or the other part that it connects to?

Looks like a common problem if I'm not the only one with it.

yeah. you need a steering wheel puller and a machine screw with 32 size thread. and a locking plate tool if you don't wanna use your palm. Haven't completed this yet but am about to. So for posterity here are a few sites I found that are helpful for disassembling the column enough to replace the "actuator rack" and even fix the loose tilt problem. yo.

Oh yeah, you will probably need another actuator rack. They come by themselves for about 12 to 17 bucks and in kits with extra parts for 46 bucks from a GM dealer. Good luck to you or whoever finds this post. heh. good luck to me! I'll probably post here when I'm done.
