Converting drums to disks

I'm looking to convert my 71 nova from front drum brakes to disks. I found a kit for under $800 that will do it. But, don't have that much money to spend. A friend of mine suggested taking the front brakes off of a late mode camro 80's or so from the junk yard. I was wondering if anyone has done this or any experience converting drums to disks?
