Squeaky noise Coming from Driveline

I have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner V6 and there is a squeaky noise coming from somewhere in my driveline. It has been off and on for about 2 months but now it is becoming more frequent. I think it might be the Center support bearing, but not sure. I tried to ove the u-joints for excessive play and there was none, but there was play in the Center Support Bearing. Is that normal?
Sorry for Long thread

Ive got the same problem on my 01 tacoma trd 4x4, I came to this site looking for help before I took it somewhere. I actually got in the bed while someone else drove it and it was coming up through the bed and cam very loud. That makes me think that it might be the center support bearing but it doesnt do it all the time.....Ive actually found out how to make it stop......I dont do it because its not good for the truck but if you shift gears hard and pop the clutch a little it will usually stop. Any ideas here would help.....since the bearing is about $175 from the dealer.

The same problem has just shown up on my 2001 Tacoma. It's interesting: Only starts above 35mph, when I accelerate hard, the noise stops. When I coast, the noise stops. Only when I supply enough pedal to maintain speed, it squeaks severely! It doesn't squeak if I coast in neutral either. If anyone finds out, let me know!!! PLEASE!!

I also have the problem with it clunking at a stop.

It is either a u-joint or a center support bearing. I would suspect the bearing. Would it be possible to drive the truck untill the noise starts, then soak the center bearing in a penetrating oil, such as WD-40? See if this stops the noise. I was able to do this with a 79 extended cab F-250 a few years back.

Hope this gives you something to work with. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Did the WD-40 today on the center support bearing. Still squeaks. If ANYONE has the solution, please let us know!! k4m1k4z1@comcast.net

It is actually really simple. Your rear leaf springs need to be lubed. Try this: get in the bed of the truck while parked. Move to the area just behind the wheel well and bounce up and down. You will probably hear the squeak.

FIX:

Get some lithium grease in a spray can and generously spray in between the leaves of the rear springs. Then get in and bounce again. This gets grease in between the leaves. Re-spray and that should take care of the problem. I have to repeat this about every month or so as I have not bothered to take the springs off and do the job right.

Hope this helped.

This fix doesn't seem to be in line with the symptoms. See my first post above. I have taken my truck to the dealership to let them solve it. We'll see what they say!

Sounds like the same problem I experienced......
The u-joints on your vehicle require lube!!! (the double cardan in particular) Use regular chassis grease for all joints except the double cardan... (it needs the high temperature grease).... Sorry for the long delay in posting results. The dealership said they found nothing, after driving it 3 times. What I find interesting is that since I have taken it to the dealership, there has been NO noise!! i've got mixed thoughts about this one. . .

I will bet it is your rear differential going out. My 99 prerunner dropped two of 'em. My brother has a 4x 2000 model repaired one and his second is going out. I remember mine would get real sqwaky when I would let off the gas and coast.
