Angry 91 corsica, driving me crazy

I have a 91 corsica, v6. Ive had the car for about 6 months, and it ran great until a couple of weeks ago. Its driving me crazy. I took it to a shop, where they had it for 2 weeks...and brought back to me with the reply, "We can't figure out whats wrong with it". It stalls, not only when hot, not only when cold...whenever it feels like it. when it runs right, it runs great...alot of power. But then, it starts to run really rough, the engine light comes on, acts like its running out of gas, then just dies. It'll start right back up, but will ride rough for the remaining time. It's had new plugs, new thermostat, new egr valve..and different sensors have been tried...but no luck. I need help! I like the car..it was great to drive, i dont really wanna get rid or it. Any suggestions?? Thanks.

Same thing happened to my 91 corsica V6 2 years ago. I had the Torque Converter Solenoid (TCC) replaced, and the problem was solved.

take it to another shop with a little more compitence. if the check engine light come on that usually means a sensor problem, something that can be check with a scan tool.

Does the car stall or run rough after you have slowed down after driving at highway speed? If so then it sounds like the TCC. You can disable it by disconnecting the switch on the brake pedal.(the one with two wires)

i wouldn't unhook the brake switch it's unsafe and ilegal to drive without brake lights. if you want to disable the tcc unplug it at the tranny.http://autorepair.about.com/library/...bl-dtcs-94.htm
this link tells you how to get the flash the codes out with a paperclip do this the next time the engine light comes on.

Re: 91 corsica, driving me crazy

Sorry if you misunderstood amac, I was talking about the TCC switch on the brake pedal (not the brake light switch, there are two switches). When you tap the brakes, the TCC disengages (if driving above 80Km/h). If the switch is disconnected, the TCC will not engage when the computer tells it to.
(it thinks you are driving with your foot on the brakes)

Angry

Try to check fuel pressure!!! My 6K does the same exact thing and I was running out of things to try. I only had 27-31psi and we are supposed to have 41-47. When I get the Fuel pump replaced I will let you know if it worked.

The sock over the fuel pick-up in the tank can collect enough junk it can shut down the amount of fuel as well . . .
