Re: 99 grand prix Head Unit

They do not. I went through this before getting rid of the factory head unit and going aftermarket. The only good option is to use the power drop, located on the passenger side, below the glove box (you'll have to remove the carpeted panel). The only down side to this, is the drop is not part of the delayed accessory relay, meaning it is not powered after the ignition is shut off.

Re: 99 grand prix Head Unit

You dont need to remove the head unit. Most better amps have high level input with a turn on sensor. Just tap into yor rear speakers. When it senses the power to your rear speakers it turns the amp on. I am running a factory cd deck on my 99 because I like the steering wheel controls. I am running a MTX801D amp with 2 10" MTX8000 subs. Never had any problem with it.

Re: 99 grand prix Head Unit

Most cig outlets stay powered all the time. Another way to do it is to tap into the radio fuse in fuse box using a fuse tap. You can pick one up at Radio Shack or any other car audio store. It goes over the fuse and has a male spade connector on to connect your remote wire. This way your amp turns on and off with the radio.

Re: 99 grand prix Head Unit

Well, I'm sorry, but I'm not going to pull my car back apart just to take a picture for you. Look under the dash, below the glove box. See the carpeted panel that holds the passenger side courtesy lamp? Remove that panel and look up into the bottom of the dash, right below the glove box. You will see a harness taped up, labeled Power Drop, and labeled for the individual wiring.
