Do all fox body convertables have bars underneath?
I was going over a big speed bump in my friends droped vert that he just bought, and it scraped very very hard, I was flipping but he said there is two bars that ran down the frame so he can scrape all he wants and nothing gets hurt.
We dont no if it came like that or if its something a previous owner put on.

sounds like subframes and they are not for scraping. and no Fox bodies do not come with bars running down the side.

Re: Do all fox body convertables have bars underneath?
I didnt think they where for scraping. I had a 88' LX and it didnt have them but I figured since it is a convertable it came with subframe connectors to make up for not having a roof.

Well they don't come stock, so they were added by someone at some point.

94-up Vert Stangs came stock with sub-frames connectors. The Foxes are not so lucky.

I thought the 'Vert had a 4-poing k-member brace, but maybe I'm mistaken...

I'm not positive about Fox verts having 4-point k-braces stock I think they do. But like I said before Fox4 Verts have subrames and k member bracing stock.

Re: Do all fox body convertables have bars underneath?
Its still a mystery to me. Does anyone knows for sure? Someone has to own a 87-93 vert or know someone who owns one.
I know for sure that verts have extra reinforcment done to it for the lack of a roof. I would think subframe connectors would be a perfect spot.

GTStang is right. My 92 is definitely lacking subframes.

Re: Do all fox body convertables have bars underneath?
right.......okay i am pretty sure that no Fox body mustangs come stock with subframes. I don't know about the Cobra's, and i am including the Fox4 as well (SN95). I am not sure about the newer (99+) Mustangs but I don't think they came with subframes either. I have a bone-stock 94 mustang and i dont' have them, and a friend of mine has a 98 and she doesn't have them either.

Re: Do all fox body convertables have bars underneath?
well, i could be wrong, but i don't think there is any extra strengthening. That is why convertibles notoriously have the most chassis flex and other problems associated with loose chassis. It is for that reason that most people I talk to that have convertible mustangs recommend the first thing to get is subframes. Even if you don't modify anything else in the car, just get subframes. People with the Fox bodies are even more strong on this point. I have heard most people say that they actually feel the car's suspension start to work after they get the subframes.
