Question 2000 Dodge Caravan check engine light

I was wondering if anyone knows how to get the codes for a 2000 Dodge Caravan. When I cycle the ignition switch off-on-off-on-off-on, nothing blinks. I am wondering if it is on because I have not been to the dealership for a while. Any ideas? Is there any way to reset the light so it will go off.

Thanks in advance.

Ron

How fast are you cycling the key..you have to be quick about it....
You can pull the battery cable and let the comp reset but if you want the car diagnosed i would recommend against it..any code pulled can be of use to a diagnostic man...even those that dont cause the light to come on...

You cannot flashcode a post 96 Dodge- you need a scantool or codepuller.

Ron- you can go to autozone or advance auto & they'll read the code for free for you.

Thank you so much. I didn't realize AutoZone would do that.

I went to AutoZone and they said it was "Auxillary Emissions Control". He didn't give me a code number. Any ideas?

Thanks again

Next time ask autozone what the actual code number is. It's called your OBDII code (on-board diagnostic 2). For example: P0440 = "EVAP system malfunction". You can look em'up right on the net. From what autozone told you, I would suspect you have an evaporative emission system issue. Most likely cause (believe it or not) is a bad gas cap. If your cap does not seal tight, or the cap's internal check valve is shot, the pressure in your gas tank will bleed off & you will get a check engine light. For OBDII compliant vehicles (all 1996 & on), you need positive presssure in the gas tank all the time. For a couple bucks, try a new gas cap.
