Anybody know if it's possible to turbocharge a 3.0L v-6 1995 Dodge Caravan. I've asked around and couldn't find any good answers. Maybe someone out there has the answer and if so, how much would it run. Also would removing the air filter box and a cold air intake filter on the end of a hose and run it dirctly to the engine a good way to gain horsepower. Any ideas would be great.

:cheers:Dodge at one time sold as an option a turbocharged Caravan but I don't know how long it was produced. I saw it on a 1990 model. So there may be dealer parts availible. If your engine has alot of miles on it you may want to rethink putting alot of money into it.:grinno: Also make sure that your trany can handle it. Turbos produce alot more tork than a standard engine.:bricks1: Keep your eyes on the rode, digimon :bananadie

I think they were only available for two years and they were 2.5's. Must have been too troublesome that they only lasted 2 years.

It's possible to boost any motor. Whether or not the motor and tranny can take any additional power is another matter. Check out any of the myriad of junk yard turbo forums, lists, and what-not scattered about the internet.

As far as as a turbo-van, they were more likely built to satisfy CAFE requirements, although I don't know in this case. The big three were struggling to meet the CAFE averages, and producing more small displacement motors was the anwer. Many turbos and superchargers were being tossed onto small motors to provide the required torque yet lower emissions at the time.

The 3.0 liter v6 is Mitsubishi built. It is the same basic motor that is in the 3000gt dodge stealth. So yes, it is turbochargable. The difference is that the engine in your van is sohc and the higher performance engines are dohc with twice the valves per cilinder. If you have a 3.3 or 3.8 liter v6, I would advise against turbocharging as the engine failed tests for this during development. For more info vist www.allpar.com

All the factory vans with turbos were 2.2 or 2.5's they made them for quite a few years, and in '95.

the 3.0L six was never turbocharged in the vans.

The setup off the 3000GT will work, but I will warn you that the "mitsubishi built" 3.0L motors are not all produced by Mitsu, some are Mexican, which do not take abuse or performance mods well.
Your best bet is to go with the 2.5 turbo van, a garrett turbo and plenty other fun mods, but if the 3.0 is the way you want to go, then find a donor 3000GT (but why wouldn't you just drive the GT????)

ZSpider is right about the 3.3 and 3.8's... gotta leave them alone...

good luck,
