Unhappy very confused.......is it a 98 or 99?

I'm not sure what year my truck is haha. I thought that it was a 99 but they don't make any 5.7 liters. So i was wondering if it is a 98 or a 99. And by the way its the old body style Z71 Offroad.

Re: very confused.......is it a 98 or 99?

If your registration is correct, the year model will be on it. But if not, check the 10th digit of the VIN located on the driver's side of the dash. If the 10th digit is W, the truck is a 98. If the 10th digit is X, the truck is a 99.

Look under the hood at the white label. It will say " This vehicle complies with ........ applicable to XXXX model year ....." In the upper left hand corner of this label, it will also tell you the engine size.

As said before, check your VIN#, also you can check the sticker in the driver's door for date of manufacture.

In '99 and 2000, GM built BOTH bodystyles. The older style body is refered to as a C/K'Classic' and all the new body styles are called 'Silverado'.

In the early trucks '78 and up Silverado was the top of the line, the nicest Chevy truck you could buy, now in the new Silverado(new body style), even the cheap trucks, with no power equipment, cheap seat and rubber mats are Silverados.

Go figure!

Also, as you probably know, the old body style is available only with the 4.3L, 5.0L and 5.7L ith the 7.4L available in the 3/4 and 1 ton versions.

The new body style is available only with the 4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L with the 6.0L and 8.1L and of course diesels available in the 3/4 and 1 ton versions.

So if you want a good ole 350 in your new style Silverado, your sh*t outta luck.
