1993 Lumina Knocking

My 1993 Lumina has been knocking once you accelerate a lot. If you accelerate slow it won't know but once you give it more gas it starts knocking a lot and has like no power. I was wondering if anyone had any information they could give me to help. Thanks

First a higher octane fuel in your vehicle. Second check the spark plugs and wires. Third if the first two don't work than take it to a mechanic for a diagnosis.

I would agree on the plugs and wires and chech the distributor cap for buildup and cracks. The Lumina was designed for regular gas. While reducing the symptom, you are really masking the problem. Check your vacuum hoses for any that are disconnected or worn out. It is also possible your timing is off a bit. Sounds like it's time for a tune-up.

Sounds like carbon build-up in the cylinderse, which is causing pre-ignition. That's probably what is causing the knocking, and as for the loss in power, since it's pre-igniting in the cylinders due to carbon buildup, that could be a cause for the power loss.

Re: 1993 Lumina Knocking

I personally think you are all on some really good stuff.
carbon causing preignition smoke another one.
distributor cap don"t think so coilpacks take another look.
higher octane fuel might help a newer car not a 93 lumina.
take it to a mechanic he will tell you what I already implied blown the f*@k up!!!!!!
