Question 3.1 to 3800

i have a 96 lumina with a 3.1 in it that is blown. what changes would have to be made to put a 3800 in it? the car only has 76000 miles on it and would love to change it to the 3800?

This isn't a small undertaking. The computer (and therefore your theft deterent system) need to be changed. Transmission isn't the same, so you'll need to get a different one. I believe the engine craddle is also different so that might need to be replaced as well (requiring the entire front suspension to be tore apart and reassembled). For the amount of work involved, it would probably be better to just live with a rebuilt 3.1 and find a used LTZ. -Lego
