I have a 2000 z71 and last week I drove home from work about 36 miles @ 75 mph. My truck was running just fine untill I exited the freeway and went through a few stop lights, but then when I slowed down to make a turn, the engin died. So I threw it in neutral and started it back up and kept going, then it ran fine. The same thing happened again last night - it died while slowing down. The temp outside was below zero both times. Anybody know what is going on?
Yeah its really simple to fix. there is a hole in the side of your bed... gas goes in there.

I to am having that issue of the vehicle dieing sporadically. I have noticed it happening at a coast / turn or braking. I have a 1998 1500 Z71. I am having mine put on a scope tonight. I will reply with any findings. I can say I live in the Seattle area and this has happened to me in various temps between 30F - 60F.
Ok so I never made it to the Mechanics to have it scoped / scanned. My truck died for good and wobn't start. As I turn the key to accessory position I get nothing. No dash lights,(i.e seatbelt, oil etc.) I get no fuel pump turning on. The truck will turn over once I pass that. butwith no pump or sensors turning on. It is a failed attemp. I have checked and changed the fuel relay. I have researched and found that a faulty ignition switch could be my problem. II just had my Tranny rebuilt because of a pressure build up ruined it. I have read that a faulty ground or ignition swicth can cause that as well.
Is there any way to ensure that is the problem before I pay a mechanic. The last job cost me almost $3000.
Sounds to me like you had a fuseable link in the wiring open up, don't know where they are located in your truck but they usually look like a hunk of clear plastic about 3/8" in diameter and 3/4" long molded on to the wire. It's just a fuse inline with the wire, if you find the bad one you can splice in a new one for a couple of bucks.
kavemanbj, check your distributor cap take it off look on the inside of it for carbon cracks. if you find some change out the cap.i had the same problem after we had low temps. i changed the cap and it started and ran, never had a problem after that.
