Talking Newbie alert!!

Hello! Just thought i should introduce myself. I'm a gm mechanic who finally managed to offload my junk car and buy a real car. I ditched a 1993 Mustang convertible with the 2.3L and automatic tranny(i can hear you all wincing). I got a great deal on a used grand prix off of the used lot at the chevy-olds dealer i work at. I got a dark green 1998 grand prix GT two door. I was so sick of working on other people's cool cars all day and then driving home in that crappy little stang, i was so glad to get something of this caliber. I'm thinking about doing some mods, but i'm not sure exactly what. I'm just outta school (college based GM training) and money's a little tight, so any effective, cheap mods to get a little more ummph outta the car would be cool. I've got access to GM's online service manuals, so if anybody with a 98 or newer gp needs some information, go ahead and holler!

Re: Newbie alert!!

Welcome to the site.

If money is tight then I wouldnt suggest really throwing any at the GP GT. If you had a GTP I would've suggest pulley/intake/exhaust.

Here's a few links to get you started:

www.clubgp.com

http://tacgp.clubgp.com/ <--- they have list of vendors links and also a collection of mod how to's

Building your own 3.5 inch fenderwell intake and popping a 180 degree thermostat in it is a decent start. Also, since your a mechanic...cut out the u-bend restriction right after the factory catalytic converter. Weld an o2 sensor inlet on a piece of straight pipe and weld it back up. That mod is dyno tested @ 5fwhp on the 3.8N\A. You can also pull your stock exhaust manifolds off and go to town with a die grinder. That will add a few ponies..
