Wheel and tire question

I have a 97 gt and was wondering how wide of a tire i could go with the stock size rims. I have the spun honeycomb looking rims...they kinda look like wire wheels just spun. I would show a pic of the rim but im new and dont know how to upload pictures. I was wondering also if these wheels are torque star wheels or some other kinda and how light are they? any help would be great

Re: Wheel and tire question

To post pictures go to Gallery on top of the page. Then there click My Gallery and you can then upload all the pictures you like. I have not installed wider tires on my GP but I did on my Z-34 and the problem is when turning, if they are too wide they will burn the plastic fender covers. Take that into consideration. Basically the best way to go is just checking at your local tire shop trying them until you find the fatest one that would fit without problems...

Re: Wheel and tire question

The rims you have are called Crosslace rims.

The Torqu stars are the lightest stock rim, but the Crosslace is the widest.

Honey comb rims and wider tires

I know exactly which rims you have. Is your tire size now 225/60 16? If you don't know, check the side of the tire it should be stamped in the rubber. If it is, I'lll have a good reference point and will find out if you can go wider. But let me know what size you have, okay?

Re: Wheel and tire question

Ive got 2 crosslace's that I was going to use for drag radials.

The tires that the previous owner had on them are 225/50

Re: Wheel and tire question

Well 235 does not sound that bad. My Z-34 has wheels that are 16x7.5" and the rear ones are 235/55r16 and never have given me any problems.
Never have tried them on the front tought but back there they are nice and look good.

Re: Wheel and tire question

i have 245/50's on my factory rims.. they dont rub or anything. it only makes the speedo off by like 1 mph. they're only slightly smaller diameter than 225/60's. mine are directional Z rated kumho ecsta supra 712's--pretty cheap too.
