Installing a LS1 motor in a 1993 Camaro

I have a very tired LT-1 in my '93 Camaro. I want to replace it with an LS-1. What is involved? Does the computer need to be changed? Does it require a Speed Density to Mass Air conversion? What are the differences in the wiring harnesses? Has anyone successfully done this?

You are better off fixing the LT1 up the way you want. Its more work than its worth and by the time you do all that you could have a bad ass lt1. Plus you cant legally pass smog with the LS1 in there.

thats a really good suggestion...if you dont feel like dealing with the process, which is rediculously involved, than you might want to look into fixing the LT

Re: Installing a LS1 motor in a 1993 Camaro

You will have to change almost the whole car to put a LS1 in there, you will need a New computer and because the Tranny is computer controlled you will need to change the tranny, Motor mounts are different as well, you will need to buy complete new harness. If you have your heart set on a LS1, buy a rear ended donor and swap all the parts and if the rear differential is still in one piece put that in too. But I would have my LT1 sent to a performane shop pay $ 1600.00 to buy a supercharger on ebay. and blow the doors off the Z06 Corvette down block

Well, that is apparently way more than I want to get involved in. Guess just rebuilding the LT-1 is my answer. Thanks for all the input.

either that or sell the old LT1 to someone who wants to build it, and buy your self a nice prebuilt 383 or 396 LT1... It'll smoke most stock street cars anywhere...

wow you people are pansies.. "have to change engine mounts wiring harness and computer it's to hard" geeze just swap the mounts buy a stand alone harness and computer piggy pack it in or install it (depending on kit)... easy as that it's not that hard if you actually have a clue what your doing...

Re: Installing a LS1 motor in a 1993 Camaro

its not so much that it couldnt be done or that its too hard. its a matter of efficiency. its just not cost effective to put the ls1 in. you can do anything to anything if you put some work into it, but thats not the point...
