Ok. I have an 86 toyota 4x4, 22r. rebuilt diablo motor( 5,000 miles) heads were resurfaced, ported and polished and all that good stuff. done by a shop. A month ago I had driven it as usual to school, everything seemed to be fine. started to come home, and noticed my temp gauge was way up to hot. pulled over, checked the radiator, no water. put in enough to get home then checked the oil. had water. did a compression check on the cylinders, and 3 had 150 but the first one had 125. no leak in the radiator, but the water is going somewhere. Took the head off and sent them to be redone again. any suggestions on why it got hot in the first place? cannot figure out what went wrong. Thanks!

Do you still have your thermostat in there? I had a 79 with a 20R and an 83 with a 22R...took both of the thermostats out. But if you live in an area where there's a lot of temperature variation through the seasons, just replace the thermostat. I'm thinking you might have a cracked head, or worse yet, a cracked block...just a thought. You may want to have the shop to a magnaflux test, but I'm not sure if it can be done on an aluminum head. Hope I was able to help .

New to forum and scanning old threads. I had an 88 that blew a head gasket. I was in Texas with a lot of minerals in the water and it clogged the radiator. This caused it to get too hot and warped the head allowing the pressure from the cylinders to go into the water jacket and blew the top tank off of my radiator. ( A friend was borrowing it at the time.) I had the heads milled and the radiator rodded out. I since then used distilled water in the radiator and haven't had a problem since. You might want to have your radiator flow tested if you are still having problems.

If it is a freh head I would think it is a block problem.. did you have the block surfaced as well? Just a thought
