Re: wanting to buy a GTI...questions
i would suggest a Mk3 Vr6 GTI... 97 or 98. One in great condition will go for $9k... so use that extra $3k to make it "better"

Re: wanting to buy a GTI...questions
02 gti 1.8t 180hp/173lb-ft = 16,000+ private seller
01 gti 1.8t 150hp/162lb-ft = 14,500 private seller
00 gti 1.8t has 150hp/162lb = 12,500 private seller
You can get over 200hp and 220lb-ft on (00-01 models) and 210hp/240lb-ft on (02+ models) with a simple APR or neuspeed chip =$400, than put new aem or neuspeed intake, or new K04 turbo, FM intercooler, Diverter valve, boost controller, exhaust and so on.

Re: wanting to buy a GTI...questions
also i heard that buying a 1.8T GTI is a waste of money.... going with 1.8T Golf is better... because the GTI 1.8t its almost just like the 1.8T golf..... is this at all true?

A GTI is a two door Golf, so they would be a lot alike.

Re: wanting to buy a GTI...questions
what is the difference between Golfs and GTIs..i know that they r very similar, but a GTI is not a 2 door golf..they make 2 and 4 door golfs...and GTIs r more money than any golf..
what r the differences?
what the hell is a corrado? i dont want some old peice of crap
i noticed for golfs that there r different models... GL and GLS..i think there is another..
how do u know if it has a 1.8T engine?

If it is a 1.8T and it has 4 doors it is a golf 1.8T, if it has 2 doors it is a GTI. At some point along the MKIV line they quit putting the 1.8T in the 4 Doors (they also stopped putting the VR6 in the 4 Doors as well, if they ever did). The GTI undoubtably costs more to insure than a 4 door golf with the 1.8T. Resale on a GTI would probably be higher than a 4 door Golf with the 1.8T.
Realistically the differences between a golf and a GTI are going to be the sports suspension (on GTI), wheels (GTI will probably have larger wheels), and the GTI will have sport bucket seats. Also the GTI has larger brakes than a golf.

Re: wanting to buy a GTI...questions
You could get a mint shape Mk2 16v for like 5g's tops, then you could put $7000 in mods to it. Turbocharge the engine and you got oh, about 250hp, put in a killer ICE setup, and you'd probably have enough left for a shiny paint job and some shoes.

Re: wanting to buy a GTI...questions
Better yet. Screw the VW and go and get a '88-'90 BMW M3.
Oh, wait you're just a kid...

It's about the driver, not the car people. Learn to drive "for real" before getting one of you're "pimp rides"

Re: wanting to buy a GTI...questions
i have a 95 318i..... i dont think that i want to get a bmw older than the one i have right now...
and i got 12Gs..well i dont have that yet... but i am working my butt off... my parents are going to let me get 4 year loan...and they said they will help out with a down payment or something.. i want at least half the car to be paid for on the spot
and Boss San... what are you talking about... "learn to drive "for real" before getting one of you're "pimp rides"
and no thanks on the MK2... that thing is ugly... plus im not all about racing... i just want a nice car that is reliable, and quick... and look looks halfway decent
