subaru clutchesjeterkm02 01-27-2004, 09:33 PM is it true that subaru has a bad reputation for their stock clutches?? my brother's was fried at about 60000 miles, but hes tryint to convince me that the average subaru stock clutch life is 30k miles, which i find to be unbelievable and untrue. F23A4Racer750IL 01-27-2004, 09:43 PM i herd they go out too. but i need to hear more stories before i truly believe it. Dale 02 wrx 03-19-2004, 09:08 PM Believe it mine went out @ 26k however I bought it with 16k. Clutches r covered under warranty one time 3 yrs/36k miles. getting mine for free 2turboimports 03-19-2004, 11:49 PM almost any clutch will go out if you beat the crap out of your car....mine went at around 55k, but that was with countless AWD launches ragnarok 03-20-2004, 03:13 AM Stock clutch is only good for about 280 hp also, i got up to just over 300 and after 3 or so months it started slipping and i hadnt done any hard racing where i was reving high and letting the clutch out fast. Stock sucks anyways, i got a exedy racing clutch and while i was at it i got a fidanza lightweight flywheel (9.5 lbs) and has worked flawlessly since. Hell, it grips so well that at points where you might burn the clutch on the stock one doesnt even happen on this one, its nice. Has a light pedal too, pushes in a lot easier. RyanGiorgio 03-20-2004, 04:22 PM I think my clutch might be on its way out soon. I notice that it revs reasonably high when getting out of first...even if you like balance the clutch and gas. Could that be a reason they go so early? LjasonL 03-20-2004, 05:09 PM I think my clutch might be on its way out soon. I notice that it revs reasonably high when getting out of first...even if you like balance the clutch and gas. Could that be a reason they go so early? The car revs up by itself? Don't understand what you mean. ragnarok 03-20-2004, 10:33 PM I think what he means is that when he lets out the clutch and gives it gas the clutch is slipping and the rpm's freely go up. keita 03-20-2004, 11:33 PM Hey fellas, being that I have never worn out a clutch, what EXACTLY happens when your clutch is about to go out. I hear "slipping", but what does that exactly mean....?? Thanks guys. LjasonL 03-21-2004, 12:55 AM It's kind of a hard thing to describe if you haven't experienced it. It just won't "grab" like it should. Say if you're coasting along and you hit the gas, and the RPM jumps up a little before you ever even speed up. Or you have to rev it higher than normal cuz it doesn't want to go. I was told by the head mechanic at my local dealer a good easy way to test if it's about to go is run it up to redline in 1st gear like you're racing, then go straight to 3rd and floor it, and see if it starts reving up instead of accelerating. You'll know what I mean if it happens. Dale 02 wrx 03-21-2004, 11:11 AM mine would shake/shudder horribly. then it started to rev high (I almost redlined in 5th). I will be putting on an ACT next time b/c I'm cheap ragnarok 03-21-2004, 12:48 PM Bad thing also over time is when it slips it'll cause more heat on the flywheel and overtime it can cause it to crack. SUBAguRU 2.5rs 03-21-2004, 01:46 PM with subaru's it's usually that the synchro goes out. 5th gear is usually the worste. this has happened to my 2.5, and to a couple friends. you need to take it to a mechanic and have them check it out/fix it. but untill you can do that, double clutch 5 gear(if it grinds or doesn't engage easily) racerh03 03-27-2004, 10:48 PM yea mine would rev up to about 3,300 RPM's and then start to slip and jump up to higer RPM's faster , Its your clutch get a new one. aznxthuggie 03-30-2004, 12:29 AM well the way i see it is that when you mess up on a front / rear wheel drive car the clutch isn't messed up because ur wheels can jus slip, but for a awd car the power goes to all the wheels, now i think when you messed up on a awd car the clutch takes in all the pain and the wheels don't really spin out or anything.. jus my 2 cents vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
