How to change plugs in a 97 Venture?

My Venture is pushing 130,000 and has never had a tune up. It runs great, but I'm sure it would do a little better with new plugs. I prefer to do the maintenance myself, but can't see how to get to the rear plugs. Is there a special tool or technique?

Re: How to change plugs in a 97 Venture?

See Pontiac Montana for a good explanation. I have never let anyone change my sparkplugs on any vehicle...until now. If you have a lift or can use one, and have extremely long, thin arms with strong hands, it will be alot easier. I know when I'm whipped, but good luck to you. I can touch them but can get enough angle to yank them.

Question about chevy ventures

squidworth
i don't know how to change the plugs , but i would like to ask you for help if you don't mind . i love my 98 venture but considering trading it in . the engine light has come on and off 5 times in the last two months , i'm told it's an 1870 code which means the transmission has slippage . any idea if this is right and how much it will cost to repair . have you ever had to repair your for this or other things ? toni

Plugs

The info from the Montana thread was very helpful on how to get at the rear plugs. Additionally, a mirror was helpful in visualizing the rear plugs, then its easier to go after them by feel. I was never able to actually see them without a mirror. Finally, when reaching from over the top of the engine, removing the arms for the windshield wipers and rotating them out of the way gives you a little more room to reach through.
