ABS light on

My Venture is 1998 Automatic.

It has been servicing me very well until last year when the ABS light would turn on when the weather is wet. When the weather changed back to dry/hot, the ABS light is then OFF.

Last month, the ABS light keeps on turing ON despite the weather. I have a feeling that the problem is related to the speed sensor at the front wheels and I have seens some posting talking about GM's speed senor problem.

Do anyone has the similar experience?

I am looking for the pin out diagram of the ABS computer (Delco ABS VI) so that I can back probe the output of the speed sensors when the car is moving. Does anyone knows where I can get the ABS computer connector diagram?

thank you very much in advance.

Re: ABS light on

I had a similar problem in Nov. 2002 on my 98 Venture LS, but the TCS and ABS light were on at the same time. The van was still under the extended warranty so I took it the dealer to have it checked out. They found no problem and reset the system.

The lights came back on in July of 2003 and I took it back to the dealer, still under warranty, were they found 19 trouble codes stored for the ABS motor. They found the electronic brake control module was not letting enough voltage go to the ABS relay. They replaced the brake module and I have'nt had the light come back on.

Re: Re: ABS light on

The first order of business would be to have the ABS codes pulled to determine what area to look at for the cause of your problem...this will save you time by directing you to a specific area instead of trying to check the voltage and resistance values of the entire ABS system.

Re: ABS light on

Thanks for all the reply.

All the car repair shops in Ottawa charge for about $100 just to pull the code to determine where is the fault. I have looked at the ABS disgnostic computers and they are all over $1,000. So, I am trying to find some cheap ways (willing to spend more time) to find out the ABS problem.

thanks in advance.

Re: Re: ABS light on

The reason for pulling the codes is to determine which part of the system is at fault..you can spend all day checking resistance and voltage values on the wheel speed sensors only to find out it was a communication problem with another module...Spend the money to pull the code..

Re: ABS light on

I got the code about my ABS. It is L1232. According to the shop, it is about Left Front Speed Senor Circuit. This seems to me that I need to change the wheel bearing that holds the speed sensor. Before I do it, is there any tests that I can do to confirm it. For example, it could be the connection from the speed senor to the ABS computer. Is resistance check of the speed senor reliable? I have measured the resistance of a new speed senor as 1.1K ohm.

Any suggestion to confirm that it is the senor itself and not the wiring to the ABS computer?
