Angry 2001 Sebring rear jack points

Had a flat tire on the rear of my 2001 Sebring 4 door. When I jacked the car up, the rear jacking point partially let go, almost dropping the car off the Jack. I was on a flat concrete parking lot at the time - hate to think what would have happened if I'd have been on the side of the road. Had the dealer look at the car, and, they agreed the rear jacking point had deformed and I had used the jack correctly - then they said there was nothing they could do about it. Anybody else experienced this??

Can't say I have - but I'll be sure to be more careful while under my Sebring!

Cool

To determine if you've got the same problem my car has - take a look at the rear jack point. There's a butt-welded flange right where the jack is supposed to be located. If the two sides of the flange aren't welded together in alignment as my car is - when you attempt to jack up the car - the flange at the jack point will suddenly deform because it's too weak to handle the weight - the metal being half the thickness of a properly aligned joint. My car's was about 1/2 inch out of alignment, and, when it let go, it even deformed the chassis rail at the jack point. I was very lucky that the car didn't fall off the jack.
