94 F-250 Engine Light sporadic, Automatic sticks then goes

Hello all,

I am very new to this forum, but I have looked at just about every post over the last three days.

I have a 1994 F-250 with a 302 automatic transmission. The check engine light has bee coming on and then going off about 10 seconds later.

The automatic tranny seems to not want to shift gears when i give it a little gas and then it hesitates, then quickly sends the truck down the road with a jump. Feels like no power.

When I give it gas from the start I do not have the problem.

Factors:

1. I live in Maine, and the temp has been below zero for quite a while.
2. THe fuel tanks both sat empty for two months (not my truck just
bought it for a steel).

What I have done:

I changed the spark plugs using a .44 gap ( the others were .95)
I filled up both tanks and used a good gum out product
I went to Autozone and found a code of 12 not sure what that meant, but would love for someone to tell me.
I checked the tranny fluid and it is full and red like new.
oil is full
it had a new air filter.

The truck has 132k and is in very good condition, but I am very concerned with the tranny not working unless i step on the gas hard. It shifts wonderful then.

Let me know if you might think it is a sensor. they could not detect any hard codes in the computer

95 F150 Trans Problems

I have a '95 F150 that just started having the same problems. The check engine light keeps coming on and the transmission is very hesitant to shift. At times it feels like there is no power and it seems to be the worst when it's in overdrive, you can put the pedal to the floor and it won't shift out of OD. This has to be some kind of sensor malfunction. Anyone know what the problem is?

I also had a error code of 12 this tells me that It cant control the timing in high or something like that.

If you put your foot to the floor the problem goes away, but if you just give it a little gas does your truck seem to act the way i described?

I have the same exact problem with my 94 F 150, auto tranny 302. 152,000 K
Did you ever find the problem. Mine will shift if you let up on the gas but will clunk hard into gear, giving you a boost. My check engine light comes on also.
I sure would like a wise person to clue me in.

well we need to know what a code 12 is first which is Idle control fault so I would say start looking at the IAC or ignition control module

Sounds like a transmission fault. Electronics are failing and the trans. is going into "fail safe" "limp home" mode. It de-tunes the engine and trans. is in 2nd. gear.

Check the condition of the oil. Is it brown and smell burnt? Time for an overhaul. If the oil is OK, it can be a simple solinoid change to fix. Just drop the pan and you'll see the sol.'s; won't even need to remove the valvebody. Beyond that, it will take more in depth diagnostics and a trans. shop to fix.
